I saw a few examples of the PS "Dragon Effect" and thought I'd attempt a go at it. I reviewed and used the YouTube tutorial on the technique by this woman:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v33vqWpnnVMI had a particular picture in mind that I thought might work well (which suggests that older people with facial lines and wrinkles make good subjects for this technique). This is a picture I took of an old women while out walking in Istanbul a couple of years ago. The original picture had lots of busy stuff going on in the background and the woman's whole body was in the picture about 25 feet away. I enlarged the photo and cropped the picture to better show her face and just her upper body. I applied a motion blur on the background and tried leaving it in the picture, but that didn't seem to work, so I used a black background which seemed to work much better. What do you think?
I'LL HAVE TO REDO THIS POST! I downloaded the photo from a copy I sent to my work. It looks terrible! I'll have to send the original from home. Sorry . . .
The contrast is good. It brings out the caracatur of the aging lady. I like it.
Would like to see the larger image whe you get it uploaded.
Home must have been a long way away. Still no download
Sorry -- had a home emergency last night and couldn't get on the computer. Will try again tonight.
OK. In case anyone is still monitoring this post (chuckle) . . . here's the original photo -- I hope it is full size:
BTW - anyone know why is called the "dragon effect"?
Thank you, Loren. Wow, what an interesting artist! At least now I now know how to spell "Dragan". Thanks again.

From what I understand the persons name is Dragan that came up with this effect. Here is the you tube video that I just recently used.
