Changes to Flickr

I just received notification that Flickr will soon be limiting "Free" hosting to 1000 photos. Here is the message I received:

"Free members with more than 1,000 photos or videos uploaded to Flickr have until Tuesday, January 8, 2019, to upgrade to Pro or download content over the limit. After January 8, 2019, members over the limit will no longer be able to upload new photos to Flickr. After February 5, 2019, free accounts that contain over 1,000 photos or videos will have content actively deleted -- starting from oldest to newest date uploaded -- to meet the new limit. "

There is a 30% savings being offered for the first year of upgrade to Pro status. I've been a Pro member for many years, and have really enjoyed it.

I have Flickr and haven't seen this message yet. Of course I don't have anywhere near 1000 photos. I though you got 1TB of storage with the free acxount.

The message appeared when I accessed my Flickr account today. If you just access www.flickr.com, there will be a photo of a bluebird with the caption "Let's be candid" and a title of "Flickr Editorial" [OFFICIAL]. There is a "View Post" tab below the picture, and it takes you to this page: https://www.flickr.com/lookingahead/. The new policy is explained there. One presumes this is coming about as one result of Flickr having been bought out by SmugMug (or it might have been in the works prior to that). In any case, it does appear to be a valid expression of a policy change.

It doesn't affect me because I'm already a Pro subscriber. However, my annual membership cost might change--it's been grandfathered the past couple of years to my original value as long as I maintain continuity. Frankly, for $49.99 a year, I consider it money well spent.

And they went back to giving Pro users "unlimited" storage.
