Just got new computer recently with Win7 pro
wanted to back-up some pictures to my external
hard drive, but, I'll be damed if I can figure out
how to send a Copy of pics to ext HD?
Or how to just make a copy of a picture for that matter?
It was simple in XT, just clicked on send a copy to.
As you can tell, I'm not terrible computer literate
Feel pretty stupid, there must be a very simple way, but there's no drop down menu with send copy
Anyone?
thanks

When you click 'My Computer ' can you see the external drive in the resulting window?

1. Double click on your external drive to open it and drag the window by the upper bar to the right so it takes up half the screen. ( A windows 7 feature )

2. Double click my computer and open up your 'C' drive where your pictures are so see them. Drag that window to the left of your screen.

3. When you see your photos, right click 1 or more and drag them to the External Drive.

NOTE: I would make folders on the external drive to catalogue your pictures. I do it with dates ie., 08-06-2012 Around Town etc etc etc

If you want to be safe for a while, when you drag, just pick 'COPY' rather than 'MOVE'

Thanks Sarge

I also figured out that the drop-down in 'pictures'
has "send to" which I thought was to move files,
but it does make a copy to move to my external
drive, rather than just moving or re-locating the files

One of the best programs to replace the cumbersome windows explorer is the two pane program by Ghisler. Lots ofcustomization
abilities.... has a freeware version that you have to click on a number when starting..... very easy but you can also buy a license....

Very, very basic. You've got some good answers already. Use copy on jpegs instead of using a re-save for lack of a better term since every time you do that with a jpeg or other compressed images you loose detail. Compress = lose of data. Compress again = more loss of data. Windows 7 is very similar to XP and XP Pro. I don't know what you're use to. Hopefully not Vista that even Bill Gates said sucked.
