Who hasn't done this already..... How about trying to shoot with the lens cap still on, very easy to do. We are all guilty of something like this. I was shooting a football game and my 7D MKII died. Quick, change batts....still no good? Would you believe that the hand grip loosened up. Stuff do happen....Good lucks guys.;

Make sure contacts are clean on the lens and the camera mount. It happened to me on my D7100 and I was good to go. Good luck. Jim Bianco

My Canon 5d3 autofocus stopped working and I tried everything that I could think of UNTIL I noticed that it only failed to work when I had my new 1.4 extended connected. Updated the firmware, as I should have done earlier, and all is well!!! Its a good idea to check for firmware updates every few months.

I took out my D7100 to take some photos of our grandchildren on Halloween. Much to my surprise, the camera will not auto focus. I checked all the settings on the lens and camera and even tried a different lens. I did notice that it was not focusing properly last week when I was taking shots of girls field hockey. Short of resetting the camera to its default state, does anyone have any suggestions?

I've noticed my D7100 is pretty finicky when it comes to 3rd party lenses (Tokina, Tamron, Sigma) ... went through some embarrassing situations when I first got it. Finally decided to only use Nikon glass on the D7100 and use my Sigma lenses - only on my D5300, D5500 and D3200. Ditto - with my Tokina glass - which only gets attached to my D7000.

Now - last night, I had a similar experience shooting my a77 II with Sigma 105 Macro attached. Alluvasudden - the damned thing stopped focusing - just as all the Blues Artists appeared I had planned on shooting, in the Blues Brothers 2 movie!!! ...

Thought something had gone wrong with the camera, or the lens. Finally put it on Manual Focus, and did the best I could - lest I lose all those great shots of all those Blues Artists (half of whom - sadly, are no longer with us!) ... Oh, and btw - at the next commercial break, I calmly detached the lens, and reattached it, put it back on AF, and everything worked like clockwork!!!

Apparently, I must have partially pressed the lens release button, disengaging the AF!!! ... Yet another - gotcha!!!!!

Now, if I can only work out when the Blues Brothers 2 movie will be on again - I'll be all set!!!!!

Thanks for everyone's input. The AF lever was not on the manual setting, but just a tad off the AF mark. Live 'n learn.
