As an old & retired electrician , I used to make those gooseneck bends in conduits and thread the ends to receive those old industrial light fixtures and mount them on buildings throughout Baltimore city. So I can appreciate your history lesson with this ,otherwise, unappreciated snapshot of something past us many years earlier . Takes me back to a different time in my youth.
