The objective was to get some long distance shots of Cathedral Spires from across Stockade Lake since the air was so clear and smoke/smog free. What looked like a rather dense cloud bank had formed across the lake and above the mountains. I decided the cloud bank was so dark that it probably wouldn't generate any colors when the sun went down. Got the shots I wanted using a Canon 80d with a 100-400 V2 telephoto so I packed up my gear and headed back to the car. Hooboy was I ever wrong. These shots were taken with a Sony a6300 with a 18-105mm f4 G lens @ 1/25 sec ISO 320.
Beautiful photos. Great reflections off the waters enhance the colors in the sky. Mahalo for sharing.
Beautiful captures. You caught that light just perfectly.
Very beautiful and great composition! You always read about the rule of thirds in photography and how the horizon should not be at the midway point in a composition. It's said that there should be either 1/3 ground and 2/3 sky or vice versa. In your photo there's equal visual weight in the upper and lower portions. It works out the best to have the horizon at the midway point the way you have it.
Very lovely. Sometimes it pays to break "the rules" as CO mentions above. These shots are beautifully composed and the colors and reflections are brilliant.
Thanks to everyone for your kind words!
Nice shots from a magical evening.
Great shots with intense colors - well done.
Lovely settings and a perfect moment in time.
