I am confused. I installed Photoshop Elements 10 and when opening I have two options. The organizer and the Edit function. I can not find how to down load photos into the program. I have Kelbys book and the opening chapter page one with the down load setup never appears when I open Pse 10. The program has me creating a photoshop.com presence, logging in, bla, bla.
I plug in my camera, no reaction. I plug in a flash drive even open it, no indication from the program.
Anyone have this solved?
Hello FredCDobbs when I plug my camera into my lap top it comes up with several options. It askes me if I want to open the imiges in Windows live photo gallery, windowes live movie maker, Canon digital photo professional softwear or adobe Elements 9. Have you installed any soft wear discs that came with your camera.
Thanks Sherman. I think I found my problem. If you go directly into the organizer the file drop down that allows browser setup does not appear. To set up the auto opening you are talking about you first have to go to edit, then to the browser and then set up the browser to automatically open. Why they set it up this way is beyond me. Why can't you access the file setup drop down when selecting the organizer first, I have no idea what they were thinking.
When I use PS10 I go directly to Editor then File>Open and select photos. I never use the organizer so have gone into the Program file and created an Icon on the desktop for the editor. This bypasses the choice between Organizer and Editor.

I dont, or didn't, use the organizer either. I always downloaded my photos using Zoombrowser. I now use LR so use it to download my photos.

I use LR but not the catalog feature. I just keep my shoots in a quarterly folder with a naming standard yyyymmdd-name. I do add keywords to the pix metadata and several software packages will search the metadata as well as file names. I tend to feel vulnerable when a catalog goes south :) To date I have 87,000+ files eating up 800+GB and the new D800 shoots 74MB raw files.

Ouch! At that size it will eat a lot of hard drives!

I keep them on three 2tb USB 3.0 hard drives for triple redundancy. If one goes down I replace it. I am getting better at cleaning up after a shoot with the D800s. I still like uncompressed raw pix. OUCH is right :)

I'm thinking that PSE10 has the same problem as PSE9. I fought with PSE9's Organizer for a year now. I have it on two computers - a desktop and a small laptop. On the laptop, Organizer has the drop down menus sort of hidden on the title bar about 2 or 3 inches to the right from the top left corner. It's hard to see because of the dark gray colors of the title bar. It's not this way on the desktop computer. On the desktop my Organizer show all the normal menu's starting with File and ending with Help up top. I found out that the problem is that I had the Windows text size larger than 115%. These text sizes are changed in Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display. In other words, if you made your screen text larger in Windows so you can read the text better and see larger icons etc., changing it back to something less than 115% will bring back your Organizers regular menus along the top of the title bar.

That's unfortunate because the Organizer is a very powerful program in its own right. Once you learn to use the keyword tagging and search features it verges on AWESOME. It also helps sending photos directly to Facebook etc., has a neat Album feature and ability to create cool slide shows with music, etc. and even has its own mini-editor to light edits like cropping and sharpening, etc. It is kind of a Lightroom light.
Also if you take Photos in RAW them come up normally in the Organizer and then automatically open the Adobe Camera RAW when you send them towards the Editor.

I have been told they will allow you to put it one laptop and one desktop. Haven't tried it, though.

You can set up the Organizer to automatically come up when you attach your camera.

I think this feature only operates with Windows not Mac per Kelbys book. Have not tried it yet.
