Carol, I believe that you nailed it. The one I thought that it might be tends to be a California resident. The one you named is common in Texas. I'm an 84 year old amature where insects are concerned.

A couple more shots of this butterfly. It was very cooperative today. It is definitely a Variegated Fritillary.
