Not the words I would have used, but I came to Chit Chat to add some thoughts on the subject and see you beat me to it ...
Just because 1 member put half the site on their ignore list doesn't mean it wasn't working as intended. Personally, if I have to start dealing again with some of the jerks I've added to my ignore list, I will have to seriously reconsider my own participation on this site.
Granted, developing a series of camps walled-off by their ignore lists isn't a demonstration of the good aspects of this site. But, this site also has a long history of bullies, many that have since been banned over the years. Banned only after a good deal of damage and active members choosing to leave rather than put up with the bullies. The Ignore List was a tool that helped things for everyone, even with some misuse.
Where was the 'discussion' that typically proceeds similar functional changes? Why lock the post announcing the change?

I agree with your thoughts, but realistically the Attic is a place for some to blow off a little steam and is not to be taken seriously. Non participation is my option.
Care must be taken that such "frolicking" should not be spilled over into other portions of the forum. Coward is a term that has been frequently used and I actually feel it is only appropriate for a person who puts one on their list and proceeds to attack them on other threads. Some input from members may have helped to fine tune the intent and use of the ignore feature.
