I'm looking to explore the Everglades and Corkscrew Sanctuary in late January. Photo ops and a decent air boat ride are my prime objectives. I will be staying on Esteros Island and I am interested in some tips during my six free days. Thoughts??

Check out the little burrowing owls on Marco Island! Entering the Island from the North you are on North Collier Blvd. Stay on N.Collier until Kendall Drive. Turn Right, go one block and turn right onto Century Drive. As you turn Right there are two burrows immediately on your Left.

Thank you! We'll do that one for sure!

Dave a MUST for me on every trip is a visit to Clyde Butchers Gallery. He is known as the Ansel Adams of the Everglades. As you travel to his Gallery on the Tamiami Trail you will see an opportunity to do a AirBoat ride into the Mangroves on the ride side. Lots of photo ops as well as on both sides of his Gallery.

Big Cypress Gallery
52388 Tamiami Trail
Ochopee, FL 34141
(239) 695-2428
Open 7 days a week 10-5

This is the AirBoat Company I have used twice.

This is about Clyde:

Another must for me on each trip is to JN Ding Darling on Sanibel Island.

Have fun!

Check out Mark Smith on YouTube. Mark has lots of videos on Florida including S. Florida where he lives.

Stan, thank you very much for the great effort you have shown! I have checked all of the links you so generously provided. The air boat company was one of a few that I had checked and Darling looks excellent. Butcher Gallery is a possibility, but my wife says "No way" to the swamp walk! Some of us northerners have hang-ups regarding swamp inhabitants! Thanks again!

For the airboat tour of the Everglades, I recommend Captain Jack’s.

Thanks you! Did you opt for the Mangrove or the Combo tour?

Shark Valley and visit lots of different hammocks to see the tree snails. Each hammock has different ecosystem and thus different colorful tree snails.

Shark Valley is on the priority list! I have perused the internet for a little background, but there is nothing like some first hand advice! This whole trip fell into my lap on Wednesday, so I'm trying to get educated! Thank you for responding!

Hi Dave, .......Mostly travel on route 41 and you will see a LOT. Do not miss the Venice Rookery just off of 41 in south Venice. Also nice airboat trips in Myakka State Park - both of these will be north of your location but not terribly far.

gregoryd45 should have lots of good info too.

Thank you, Larry. I am totally unfamiliar with that part of the state and I was going to give you a holler. The trip fell out of the sky. I had plans of a quiet winter with a possible side trip to Maine or the Cape, but this was too good to pass up. We have been keeping busy with our Yellowstone endeavors and that is really quite enough for my limited thinking capabilities! We will fit in a fair amount with six full days and hope to hit several highlights of which Corkscrew always captures my attention.

Don’t miss “Robert is Here”—great stop, a local tradition. Best milkshakes!

LOL, thanks for the tip, but I won't be going that far!

If you go to Yellowstone, I can safely recommend "Stop The Car Trading Post" for milkshakes, just outside the northeast entrance in Silver Gate, Mt.
