Thanks. A fun part of photography for me is to find unexpected ways to use equipment...

Just wondering. I have an amazing D850. It was the first DSLR that I've purchased since my D70 a very long time ago. I mainly shoot animals, some very fast moving. And I've used a few photos in magazine ads. I am wondering, is there anything that a D500 would do for me that my D850 cannot? Would it be a waste of money or another enjoyable adventure to add this camera? And what benefits would it have for me using crop instead of full frame? I do know I would need new glass for the D500.

I had both. The D500 is one of Nikon's finest but here is nothing that it will provide that the D850 can't do. Don't waste your money.

A D500 is about a pound lighter than a D850 with grip. To some people this matters, to others not. It matters to me. If I buy a 46 Mp camera it will most likely be the Z7, not the D850.

You put 20.9 on the bird with the D500, 19.4 with the D850 - although the D500 has more, the results are virtually indistinguishable at any output size. However, with the D850, you also have the option for putting more MP on the target than the D500 if you're closer, which is actually a huge advantage. The D850 is like having a top tier DX camera and FX camera all at the same time. If you're close, you get to use the entire frame, if not, you still get comparable results to the D500. Just some food for thought. :)

I do not disagree. "IF" you can get closer. On wood decked passage ways it is hard to do.
