I like the colours and the sunlight - and would appreciate your thoughts on it.

I agree. I also find a pleasing balance between the dark mass on left and the cloud in upper right. I particularly like that the dog is interacting with the people and that their silhouettes are clearly defined without clutter behind them. Really, really nice, Dave!

Thanks Linda, good to hear from you and glad you like it. They are on a fairly high cliff above a cafe at which we were enjoying a cup of tea in the autumn sunshine - no idea who they are but they made a nice shot.

Lovely shot. I wonder if you need so much sky.

Thanks Bob. I considered the depth of sky necessary - but that may be because I know the angle at which it’s taken, which is probably not obvious to others. In any event, I reckon the right hand cloud needs to be complete, so it would be a minimal crop if I went for it.

I would be hesitant to crop any of the sky because you will lose the blue. That would make the remainder of the sky a bit drab. I love the light and the story that is told with the dog and the people. Without that story, the shot would be a bit dull. With the people and the dog's interaction, the shot gains life, which it really needs. I like it.

Not trying to be argumentative, but I wonder why the sky is "necessary." A tight cropping (top, left, right) of the three figures the rock and a bit of the hill on the left still tells the story of someone above (due to the perspective) while giving a real feel for the terrain. Those two things seem to be the unique aspects of the photo to me, so I am hoping to learn something from those who think the sky important.

Yes, I agree on both counts Erich. Although an historic spot (the lady sits on the remains of an old coastguard lookout), I would not have taken the shot had the people not been there, and the sky is an essential part of the image. Thanks for commenting.

I know you enough now Bob to understand that you are not being argumentative - and I get what you're after doing with this one, its just not my vision of it. It is however a good suggestion that makes more of the people within the image - here's what it looks like..

I'm glad you tried another, and still found your vision worked best. Similar things happen with me, helping to refine what I'm really after.

I have to say that I like the tighter crop better.

Bob doesn’t say whether he preferred it or not, but if you prefer it Dave it adds weight to his point. Like most images, it comes down to personal taste. Many thanks for chipping-in.

I think somewhere in between the two.

The open sky gives a sense of place and solitude. To me, without it the shot becomes some people and a dog, nice tho it may be.

Great shot. Does not need any modification in my opinion.
