I just bought a lightly used Canon EOS 30D with lens. Why did I buy a used 30D? Because at one time I had a 20D and I liked the way it fit in my hand and the 30D is very close almost identical in size to the 20D. Oh, one other thing, it came with the Japanese made EF USM 28-105mm lens, which is worth keeping regardless of the body.

Do you mean the original 5D?

Yeah, it's often quite expensive, that is why most of my camera purchases were of used equipment. Some people though really do take excellent care of their equipment and still others bought it on impulse, then put it away after hardly ever using it. I've bought cameras that had very few actuations (low mileage). Look for a good used one, you'd be surprised at what you might find.

Just because something is old, that doesn't mean it's no good anymore. I tell myself that every time I look in a mirror.

Enjoy! If it works, don't fix it.

The original 5D's are going for around 300 bucks, if that is out of your range, what do you consider being within?

That is about £150 in UK - that is not what they go for over here! But I will check again....haven't looked for a while

I shoot with a 20D all the time, and one mated to good glass. It's an old workhorse, and I'm sure your "new" 30D will perform well for you. Of course, neither will do high ISO shooting as well as the newer bodies. You can see some of my recent shots on my flickr link below...most were shot with the 20D and a 24-105L lens.

I have an EOS 60D bought new and acquired a 40D later. After a while I realized the 60D is a little larger in width and height. Haven't compared to a 70D or 80D. Is this "size creep" in newer models?

I've had a Canon EF-S 18-135 with the 60D. 40D came with a now-discontinued, more expensive EF 28-135 Ultrasonic that I love, because it can do full-time manual focus (don't have to switch the lens to MF). I just wish it started at 18mm.

I bought the 30D because I like the way it fits in my hand, plus it came with a really nice EF lens. I typically prefer bridge cameras or something like the Canon Rebel series because they are all smaller and lighter.

I also had a 40D, yes it was larger and heavier than my 20D. I find that if I'm not comfortable with a particular camera, I don't use it as much.
