I’m surprised that he looks so good. And is still alive.

I don't know how it would be in the U.K., but in the USA the little bastard would probably file a lawsuit.

Hooray for the good guy! Unfortunately the perp probably sued the homeowner for excessive use of force or something.

it did happen in the UK a few years ago, two yobs broke into farm house late one night, the farmer awoke, chased them and shot one in the leg with a 12 bore shotgun, the police and the yob took the farmer to court, farmer lost and went to jail, yob then sued the farmer and won, cant remember the names, but I'm sure if you check the internet you'll find the details

He could file a law suite but would not win. He was defending himself.

Defending yourself is not defined in law, neither is any misfortune suffered by an individual if administered to by a Voluntary First Aider (assuming it was necessary). In both situations the Judge will normally defend the defendant, but despite both Political Parties saying they'll clarify the law, they've yet to so. I'd feel a bit uneasy in a similar situation.

Both the Police and the C.P.S. (Crown Prosecution Service) are stats driven and may well find it easier to get a result against the Royal Marine. Unfortunately.
