Nikon D90 "depth of field preview" button replacement.

My brother found me this camera for $5 at a swap meet. Works great, but I'm missing the "depth of field preview" button, which is a flat one just below-right of the lens. I've not been able to find any info on how to replace this part, so any info/experience would be much appreciated! I'm not particularly interested in disassembling the camera if that's what it takes.

Just put a piece of gaffers tape over the hole to keep debris out and use the camera as-is, providing it functions otherwise. Replacement requires disassembly.

That's what I figured, and definitely not worth the effort. Thanks mucho!!!

Is a D90 worth only $5.00 these days?

It is if the seller does not know the difference between the D90 and the N90!

If it were me, I'd go shopping on the internet for another used D90, maybe even one that wasn't working and buy it for use as spare parts.

Not a bad suggestion, but, you would still have to disassemble the camera to replace the DOF preview button. I would strongly suggest the OP not try this.

That sounds like a good deal. I paid quite a bit more for a new D90 a few years ago. : )

Swap meets often just want to get rid of stuff that hasn't been selling. A "broken" camera can be hard to move. However, that could sell for quite a bit more "AS Is" or "For Parts." Below is one that sold for $63.48.

With a button missing - maybe. I don't think I would spend much more than $20 for it in that condition. If I were shopping for a D90, I'd opt for one that is fully functional, not crippled. There are plenty of good, fully intact D90's on the used market to choose from.

Yes, my brother's really got an eye for these kinds of bargains.

Thanks all for your feedback and suggestions. This camera is a good way for me to learn the basics and at $5 a true bargain. The seller gets these in bulk, thought it was parts-only because the glass covers on the LCD and rear screen were cracked! At about 24k shots, she's still got some life in her! Regarding the preview button, I'm already starting to understand how aperture and related settings work, so prob wouldn't use it either.

Thanks All
