I use Sony gear now for video shooting and I am doing a lot of video a few stills.
I use the Sony a7s II with some cheaper Cine lens which you might want in the future not now.

I am aware how the wonderful color science of the 5d cameras and the lens is a perfect choice.
Canon now has a some of the color grading and sophisticated settings for video. Have fun.
As you might know shooting video with a dslr is a little trickier than a camcorder.
But you have the right dslr and lens for prosumer video.

One limitation I’ve found is zooming. First, it’s very difficult to zoom smoothly, and secondly, my 5D3 does not re-AF as you zoom so you have to stop and refocus - not sure if the 5D4 has the same limitation. Video cameras overcome both of these issues with power zoom and constant AF while zooming.

I shoot a lot of video auditions with my 5D mark iv and although I do have the 16-35 f/2.8 II it’s a bit too wide for my work and I generally find myself using a prime 50 or 85. If your video includes zooming you will almost definitely need to buy a “followFocus” with stops to allow a proper manual focus after zooming. I shoot video in manual and only use manual focus and use separate 7” monitor to nail the point of focus. Sound - do not use the cameras pre-amp they, way too noisy for any quality. Buy a sound recorder and plug your off camera mic into that for best results. I suggest a Rode and their boom.

Thanks MrTaxi,

I shoot a lot of Landscape stills, so 16-35 f2.8 III is perfect for me. What is the name of manufacturer of 7 inch monitor? Sounds like an interesting addition. I currently use the Rode Micropro plus for external audio on my Canon 80d. Thanks Roger

I have a Sony 5” external monitor. The setup works great with my Canon 7D mark II and my Canon 5D mark IV. It really came in handy when I was shooting the solar eclipse!
