I have a Pentax K3 with an FLU card. this can be tethered to a cell phone or computer with full controls but will only work up to 25 to 30 feet. My understanding is that the newer K1 has this capability built in. The K3 cannot be operated in video mode with the flu card though if that might be an issue. I recently worked a hummingbird nest and my batteries would hold up for a couple of hours but my cell and camera had to both be set so they would not turn off or I would loose synch and have to reconnect them again. As far as down loading wirelessly it is pretty slow. I found it better for me to transfer using the card later.

A quick look at CamRanger raises another question. It is unclear from the website whether CamRanger 2 has an updated application for Windows 10. Windows support was included in the original CamRanger but dropped by CR Mini. Does anyone know about the support? I sent a question to CamRanger but have no idea how quickly they will respond.

I am using CamRanger without issues on a Windows 10 laptop and an IPad 3.

I've been using a CamRanger with my Nikon equipment and I like it. I'm using a MacBook Pro.

TheShoe, since you're likely to be mostly be tripod mounted, something you might want to consider in your selection of a camera in lieu of all the possible "work around" techniques being discussed here is that Sony cameras have a downloadable free app that lets you shoot without touching the camera by just waving your hand within an inch or so from the backside of the camera by simply blocking the light from the viewfinder or alternatively saying the word "shoot," or one of a few other words equally effective in causing the camera to capture an image. You can then have the camera send the files via wireless to your laptop or phone for further consideration, processing, sharing, etc.

There is a CamRanger just posted for sale in the UHH buy/sell/trade section for $185 if you decide to go that way.

I have tried all the cheaper Chinese units and they do not work, Constantly losing connection, sent them all back.
CamRanger is the gold standard in my opinion.

Thanks to all who have replied. CamRanger is looking good at this time. I needn't have worried about their speed of response to my questions, the answers were in my inbox this morning and were positive. Now to decide on a camera and to find the money.

I use Helicon Remote on a laptop and on Samsung (old) tablet. Works great. I use the remote setup when working inside for subject shooting or locations such as focus stacking a model train set up. On my D90, it is pretty much shutter release control only, by cable. On the D7200 WiFi just about everything can be controlled from the tablet. The only shortcoming is there is no light meter readings. I have not tried controlling from my phone, I like the bigger screen. Battery life is affected, I can get between 2 and 2.5 hours of pretty much continuous shooting out of one battery.
