Another good resource for Mirrorless cameras, not just M43, is Sans Mirror by Tom Hogan.

I do not switch my camera off, But when it is sleeping, It takes longer than any of my nikons ever did to wake up. This is my only complaint about the Olympus cameras. I will often miss a shot of a small bird taking off because the camera is slow in waking up. With my Nikon, the minute I hit the shutter, that camera was woken up and ready to go. I do wish there was a way around this, even if it meant having the batteries die faster, But if there is a way using the menus, I have not yet found it.

On page 1 of this thread, I mentioned a setting called "Release Lag-Time" which can be set to "short." Did you try it? (see page 94 of your user manual)

One other thought: if the camera is asleep, then it's hanging from your neck or you're holding it, right? To have it be awake by the time it reaches your eye to compose and focus, or just focus in hurry-up moments, push the shutter button half way as you're raising it to your face

My page 94 just gave the info on changing to the pro speed. Someone just told me that if I went to custom menu. and then to J..sleep, I could simply set it to off..so I will try that, and let you know how it goes. As long as my camera is not harmed, I don't mind changing batteries more often, as long as I stop missing shots.

Thanks for the help

Sorry, I had the wrong manual. I forgot to include "Mark II" in the search. MinnieV talked about Pro Capture shooting on page 1 of this thread. Check page 48 of your manual for more info on "shooting without a release time lag (Pro Capture shooting)"

Thanks, Just looked at it and Bookmarked it. Years ago I bought his manual for the Nikon D70S and then proceeded to print out about 700 plus pages. Now He does it by download. He was always a wonderful source for Nikon camera info. Glad to see he now has mirrorless info

Jeannie, we should have mentioned a few pages back, but in a thread with multiple respondents, please use "quote reply" to answer a specific comment. That way we have the reference of what caused you to say what you did and to whom

I also have seen in the custom menu J2 Auto power off. The factory default for my EM1M2 was 4 hours, but Darrell Young in his book suggests only 1 hour..Any thoughts on your settings?

A lot of people do not shoot as long as an hour and it is easy enough to turn it back on or to a new setting. I usually leave settings at the default unless it is something that is a "must change". Having the setting at an hour will save battery power in the long run.
