Cool. I need an interpretation on the second photo although I'm sure several anthopologijst have taken a stab at it. vz

One of the difficulties with these things (the rock art/Native American iconography) is that too many people attempt interpretation without first knowing anything about the people/culture that produced the 'artifact.' For the time being, suffice it to say the 'Moki Queen' is an example of the 'big shoulders type,' and is one of a subset of human figure 'types' seen in what's called the 'Barrier Canyon Style' of rock art that dates to the Late Archaic period (ca. 2500 b.c. - 50 a.d.). Or maybe it was just done by aliens when they landed here back in the 1950's. (No, that can't be right. This site was seen/noted on by the Claflin-Emerson expedition in the 1920's, so if it was done by aliens, it had to have been done before then....)

Thanks Cany for the detailed reply. I was a bit tongue in cheek with my question. vz

Tongue-in-cheek, you say, intrepid Inspector Von Zip? Ok, fine then. But just so's you know, I WAS being as serious --as serious as a hangnail!-- about that 'done by aliens' part. 'Cuz they DID! (I know they did --two little gray big-eyed ones, both named 'Floyd'-- because I read it on the internet, and so it MUST be true!!!)

Thanks, Mike. And AHA! I suspect you're back home now? Was wondering how you fared over in Cappy-tall Reef. Rained all day long here in Mobe. And off and on on Thursday, too. Mostly, though, I enjoyed the hell out of --what was that?-- Monday? Tuesday? Days of the week all run together....

We had tremendous luck with the weather. We drove between the storms. I will edit and post some of the results.

I agree with jerryc41. WOW! It looks like the Moki Queen is going to get a peck from that legless partridge. I don't think he is too impressed with her.

I love "red rock" country and have fond memories of a house boating trip on the lake. Thanks for sharing these very nice shots.
