AND engineers!!

May not have been known as engineers back then. In fact architects may not have been know as architects either. Seems to me somewhere back (way back) in some educational activity, I recall they were consider and called "Master Builders". And of course the "Architects" have claimed it as their origin. But, what can I say, as an engineer, and some work in the general contracting, and subcontracting arenas...….no sour grapes here. After all they hired us.

That structure there was the support for the Garneau Bridge which was inaugurated in 1890 and taken down in 1955. it was also connected to the Québec Bridge which opened to the public in 1917...and it is still open and used daily, no trucks tho

More things made of rock.

A lot of Cathedrals frown on taking photos inside. Had to check my tripod at the door.
Durham Cathedral's ancient cloisters doubled as a film location for Hogwarts in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone back in 2001.

Have you ever wondered if someone thousand of years ago thought about what people would say or think after they made a pile of rocks stick up in the air?

The Midwest was at one time the bottom of a sea which produced a lot of fossil rocks like this. This one is about 200 pounds.

pg. 11 - Nice series, Steve!

The last image looks like "coquina," which is common in the Caribbean and Florida.

("Coquina (/koʊˈkiːnə/) is a sedimentary rock that is composed either wholly or
almost entirely of the transported, abraded, and mechanically-sorted fragments
of the shells of molluscs, trilobites, brachiopods, or other invertebrates.") - Wikipedia

Nice set Tim. It's estimated that for every 3 soldiers that died in battle 5 died from disease. The leading cause.........diarrhea.

Thanks for the kind comment, Steve, and I'm glad you enjoyed,
and you taught me something I didn't know...thanks!

Inspired by a certain episode of Doctor Who, I've tried to find Weeping Angels every time we've been in Scotland. Haven't had any success, but have seen some impressive graveyard statuary.

pg. 12 - Sue, thank you for sharing these incredible statuaries...I
don't think I've ever seen such elaborate ones as these.

Devils Tower in Wyoming. 867 feet tall
According to the Native American tribes of the Kiowa and Lakota, a group of girls went out to play and were spotted by several giant bears, who began to chase them. In an effort to escape the bears, the girls climbed atop a rock, fell to their knees, and prayed to the Great Spirit to save them. Hearing their prayers, the Great Spirit made the rock rise from the ground towards the heavens so that the bears could not reach the girls. The bears, in an effort to climb the rock, left deep claw marks in the sides, which had become too steep to climb. Those are the marks which appear today on the sides of Devils Tower. When the girls reached the sky, they were turned into the stars of the Pleiades.

The second photo is a blow up of the first. Notice the rock climber. He's to the right and below the green bushes in the center.

This series really does a great job of showing the
strata in these formations...and tell that guy to
move away from the edge!
