Most of the softness is OK, but the softness round the face is probably not the best option. You could try selectively slightly increasing the contrast, clarity and sharpness for that area.
This is probably a purely personal preference, but I'd say the white vignette gives the image a coldness that you probably don't want. You could try either a tinted or a black vignette. And the touches of yellow on the left hand side would probably look better if you tint-shifted them towards orange a bit and desaturated a bit. In fact you could try adding an overall tint or use split toning to tint the highlights and the shadows separately. In either case I would say the image needs warming up a bit, and a bit of extra colour wouldn't go amiss.

Compose to show the eyes. Get entire critter in frame. Probably need higher f stop to get dof you need. Flash would improve sharpness.
