Very probably not. Likely a piece of the zoom mechanism has broken off inside an limiting your zoom. Forcing it could easily destroy that old lens.

Is it stuck as in hard to move, or does it feel like it's locked in place. If something doesn't move, it generally because of friction or a locking mechanism. With something as delicvate - and expensive - as a lens, there not much room to experiment. Using too much pressure could break something expensive.

Buy a replacement for $50 - $100.

Here's an excellent link to Ken Rockwell and his review of the lens https://kenrockwell.com/nikon/2885af.htm where he says that it is a wonderful lens until it became "sticky".

The lens has a switch that releases the lens from autofocus to manual focus. Before you try to manipulate the lens be sure that the switch is place in the "M" manual position so that the lens mechanism is disengaged. It should rotate freely now and extend in and out when doing so. If it feels like it is bound-up or gritty then it possibly has internal damage in which case it may cost more to repair than replace which is what Ken Rockwell says he did.

That only applies to the FOCUS ring, the OP's stuck ring is the ZOOM ring.

It applies to both. Both rings do quite
the same thing. They move elements.
That is why the same solution applies
in either case: Junk it.

The AF/MF switch has NO EFFECT on the zoom ring whatsoever. These are totally separate systems and are not interconnected in any way.

Had the same problem. Took it to the shop. Picked it up last Friday. 100 dollars later works fine. Glass is clean as a whistle. Very pleased.

If a pair of channel lock pliers doesn't move it, junk it.
