I believe the 6D will take better pictures of grins for reasons that need not be stated.

6D has newer sensor with better low light capability. WiFi and GPS.
1DS MIII is heavier duty as far as construction.
The same price I would go with the newer technology and better sensor.

Look at what they do and decide but if I were making this choice I would go with the 6D.

I wouldn't pay $1,000 for a ten-year old camera. The 6D has sold for less on eBay.

Actually, the International Grin Research and Investigation Network (I GRIN) did a five-year test involving taking pictures of grinning people from around the world. They took over six billion pictures using more than 5,000 cameras. The best camera for grins was the Smiling Friend, from China (no longer in production).

I am familiar with the research. And while five billion nine hundred ninety nine million nine hundred ninety nine thousand and twelve were in fact taken with Smiling Friend the remaining 882 were all taken with a 6D. Of course this particular Smiling Friend employee was summarily fired with cause, but later hired by Nikon when he switched brands.

6D for $1,000 seems way too high. I got mine used for $700 with a lens I sold for $100. It had less than 2,000 clicks.

Neither one. The 6 mkl is bare bones enthusiast FF camera, you'd be BETTER of with a 5Dmkll, it's TWICE the camera at 1/2 the price!
The 1Ds, unless you NEED a RAIN PROOF camera, is pretty antiquated.

I wouldn't consider either one for a grand, not even for GRINS!!! LoL

Have you seen the new Grinning Camera???
It's ALWAYS grinning, but what's unique about it is it never Grins the same way twice!!!
AND every so often, just to mix it up, it's programed to Snicker!!!

I love Snickers! (Snickers is a register trademark of Mars Inc.)

The 1DsIII is 10 years old, and the 6D is 5.... You can find newer(better) technology elsewhere for your 1K.
