Get a 256 mb SD card, you cannot shoot that many photos in a day, week, or likely a month wit jpegs

It varies from camera to camera and based on settings for your capture. Your camera manual should have a reference to the sizes of files given different settings.

Right on!

If you don't have your manual handy, you can compute the answer. Take the size of the SD, CF or other flash memory you are considering and divide it by the average size of the files that your camera takes.

Depends on the quality of the Jpeg. On a Nikon you can pick small, medium, and large quality Jpeg's. Each giving you different capacities. My Nikon will give that information in the view finder after I dial in the quality I want to shoot(it actually gives the number of shots remaining on the memory card). Also, most camera manuals give that information in the manual, usually at the back of the manual.

I think the only accurate answer to the OP question can be: "It's complicated." Or maybe, simpler: "It depends."

It is an easy answer. Load the 32 or 64 memory card in his Nikon camera. Set the jpeg. quality to Small, Medium, or Large, and on his screen on top of the camera in the lower right hand corner it will display how many shots he can get on his memory card at the level (sm. med. large) he chooses. Yes, it is that simple.

I do not see where the OP named the camera. Or are you suggesting he scrap his camera, if it is not a nikon?

Nikon shows how many shots are left. It is so nice that you found something good to say about Nikon. I know it has been hard on you, but now you can tell all your friends about how much space is left for pictures on your SDHC card. I am so happy for you. We Canon shooters are left with lame stuff like amazing lenses.
