Question: What are these stars?

When I take Milky Way shots, I always see what looks like a semi circle of stars between me and the Central Core. See att image, a 30 sec exposure at f/2.0. Is there a name for this structure? Or is it just a random alignment of stars?

It looks similar to the constellation Corona Borealis but I don't think it's located in line with the milky way. It's hard to tell constellations and asterisms when there's tons of stars visible. I think I see Cygnus but I'm unsure. Could you provide the date, time, direction, and general location of the photo? I can probably help narrow it down.

Download the Stellarium app. I use it when doing night sky shooting. It let's you find the position of just about in the night sky from your position on Earth. You can a multitude of filters separately or in conjunction to identify constellations and other heavenly bodies, and it's free.

Using Stellarium and using your time; date; and location, the semi-circle of stars is part of the constellation Sagittarius. Those stars form the top of the cape that the ancients visualized billowing behind him. (I first suspected the constellation Scutum (the shield), but surprisingly the stars don't actually form a semi-circle).

It's in Aquila. Can't find a separate name for the semicircle.
