Well done Don. Tonemapping can reduce the contrast. Maybe a bit more contrast +/- exposure in the rocks to bring out the texture.

Nice shot, agree about the contrast. Did you do any noise reduction to get this?

I did use Photomatix' noise reduction when importing initially into PM. Do you recommend not using PM's noise reduction and using LR's noise reduction only?

No not at all, though I tend to use noise reduction inn PS rather than in Photomatix. The reason I was asking is that the bottom of the rock looked quite smooth and I wondered if the noise reduction had taken out some details in which case I would only do a noise reduction on the sky rather than the whole pic. Textures in rock are the sort of subject that really interest me so if you have the time and inclination I would love to see the original pics.
