This afternoon the Cherokee Nation released a statement that said in part that DNA tests are useless in determining tribal citizenship and people using DNA to connect themselves to Cherokee Nation is inappropriate.

RELATED STORY: Elizabeth Warren releases DNA test with 'strong evidence' of Native American ancestry

You can read the full statement below:

"A DNA test is useless to determine tribal citizenship. Current DNA tests do not even distinguish whether a person's ancestors were indigenous to North or South America. Sovereign tribal nations set their own legal requirements for citizenship, and while DNA tests can be used to determine lineage, such as paternity to an individual, it is not evidence for tribal affiliation. Using a DNA test to lay claim to any connection to the Cherokee Nation or any tribal nation, even vaguely, is inappropriate and wrong. It makes a mockery out of DNA tests and its legitimate uses while also dishonoring legitimate tribal governments and their citizens, who ancestors are well documented and whose heritage is prove. Senator Warren is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage."

- Cherokee Nation Secretary of State Chuck Hoskin, Jr.

We have a large contingent of Cherokee in our state. Even if you have documented ancestry, once your Cherokee blood gets diluted beyond 1/8, the equivalent of having only one great grandparent of Cherokee heritage, you no longer qualify for tribal status. According to Elizabeth Warren's DNA report she is somewhere between 1*64 and 1/1024 Native American. That's anywhere from 1.5 % to 0.1%. In my wife's DNA report she is 0.2 percent Native American and I would bet quite a few people with six to ten generations in the US would register some Native American heritage. The stories of her heritage that she claims were passed down to her do not match with her DNA. She is a liar and a fraud, and this changes nothing. If she thinks this will redeem her, she's sadly mistaken. The liberal media are giving it a lot of play but the comedians will soon follow. I can imagine there will be all sorts of silly things that are going to be touted as being more Native American than EW.

I've had my DNA tested and it told me that I'm only 200,000 generations removed from Lucy....

This means I'm Black...err black

I shoulda asked if I was related to Adam but records don't go back that far and he's not on file.
