Are vertical shots back big time. I think so.

Because I shoot a lot of HD & 4K video 16x9 horizontal has been my choice. I can take stills off of my 10 bit Sony camcorder.
The invasion of smart phones seems to have created a storm of verticals. partnering on content marketing with expert
he said mobile is where the action is and will be. Some scenes make a vertical the only way to get the shot.

Yes, vertical shots can be perfect for capturing a single person, as in a musical performance. It all depends on how much you want in the scene.

Most short videos from a smart phone should be horizontal. It's terribly annoying to see a post on TV that is vertical when it should've been horizontal. That seems to be the norm for such things. Landscape mode would look so much better. I think most people just forget they can also shoot horizontal.

Tom, video is one thing, photography something completely different. My approach in deciding whether a photograph is going to be landscape or portrait mode is determined by the scene being photographed. By trying to "surgically" manufacture an image in portrait mode that was initially captured in landscape mode can cause numerous issues with the final image.

Because it's easier to hold the phone vertical.
TOO many cell phone videos should be shot in landscape instead, yielding wider coverage.

When mechanical Television began in the 1920's the frame was vertical. Folks learned later that vision is more horizontal so that it is easier to view motion pictures in horizontal format. It is irritating to view vertical video as it seems like you are looking through a slit. Interestingly it would be nice to have a vertical monitor for reading e-books.

To the OP: I have puzzled through this sentence of yours several times and can't figure out its meaning: partnering on content marketing with expert he said mobile is where the action is and will be... Can you explain, please?

You might have seen Future Son on TV this weekend, as Flo says, "I think that's just what people are like now ..."

WORSE when they put the gray fuzzy moving sides on a vertical video. I really, really hate that!!!

It's not just video. I see most folks holding their phones vertically while talking. They don't stop talking just to take a picture.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be snarky or rude, but I don't get that reference either.

I second the motion! My biggest gripe with dumb phone users (sometimes smartphones are not that smart) is that they use a vertical format for everything. If TV stations and other media would simply let it be known to the public that they will not use photographs that are vertical for subjects where it is not clearly appropriate, it would go a long way to solve the problem. More importantly, cell phone manufacturers need to change their designs so that the aspect ratio for vertical photos will be less elongated. A 16 X 9 aspect ratio works for horizontal shots, but it looks wrong for most vertical cell phone photographs, even when vertical framing is appropriate.
