Kinda late in the season. It was a bit cold and windy this morning. I found it where I saw it yesterday, but today I was prepared...

Cute little bugger. I wonder how the control mixer works on those ruddervators.

Very nice. I like the vivid colors and the high degree of detail.

Great capture. They are interesting and attractive. We have Passion Flower plants in the back pasture and get the Gulf Fritillaries.

Twice now I have removed this caterpillar from the water in a small cup in its container. The cup is there to keep the Passiflora vine alive so as to give it and the two smaller Gulf cats a fresh food source. I just checked and it is still alive, but crawling around the edge of the cup. Looks like I'll have to put something over the top of the cup to keep it from falling in again...

I use butter tubs or similar to provide water. Melt or drill small holes in lid for stems. A light misting helps keep fresh longer. Enjoy. The emergence of the butterfly is an amazing sight.
Bill. PS, if roaming may be ready to pupate. Put in a handful of leaf litter. I believe they pupate on the ground.

I mist also. I picked it out of the water twice but it still survived. I took some images of it yesterday and it has climbed to the top of the container and started to pupate. Looked again last night and the pupation is complete. The smaller cats are still feeding. I’ll post some images later.

Here are the latest images of those cats...The Variegated Fritillary started to pupate and several hours later was finished. The Gulf Fritillaries are getting bigger now. I also spotted these insect eggs I found on the frame of my french doors. Thay kinda look like Lacewing eggs, but I have never seen lacewing eggs so entwined...

In download the strands look more branched than individual strands. But they sure look like lacewing eggs.
