Ding Darling was disappointing, no birds at all but I went in the summer, it was like a furnace.
But if you come to Fort Lauderdale go to Delra beach and visit Wakodahatchee, Green Cay and Loxahatchee.

I've found a few candidates and would appreciate feedback for why to choose one over another or any better ideas I've missed. I'll be in the area for nearly a week in early November so a ranked order would be helpful too. I've never been this far south on the Gulf side. Staying with friends who don't have a photography interest. Thanks.

The Wolf Sanctuary is very unique but requires reservations. They have wolves and wolf mixes.

Paul, I grew up in South Florida and you need to remember that the hunting season will be in process while you are there. I have hunted in the Big Cyprus area along with Stair Step. You may need waders for some areas. Have fun and stay safe. Watch out for not only Rattlesnakes and Cottonmouths. They were not a problem when I lived but the big constrictors can also ruin a good day.

Highly recommend going to Cape Coral and head over to the Main Public Library. There are 7 or 8 burrowing owl nest around the parking lot, they came out around 9am... lots of photo opportunities with them. You can also drive thru the neighborhoods and find the burrowing owl nest in the empty lots. I would place this at least 2nd on your list.......
Ive been to Cape Coral on two separate occasions and always found burrowing owls. It’s fun to drive or walk around the various neighborhood surrounding the library.

Our experience with Naples is that there is a wealth of places to go/photo as all the above have indicated. And don't miss the zoo, especially at alligator feeding time!
The Botanical Garden at Naples is worth a half day. There are tropical flowers, butterflies, orchids, and endless photo ops. Lunch room is nice.
The design is compact and makes winding one’s way through the paved paths delightful.
