There was a book in the 1980's that was a compendium of these headlines and stories. It was called: "Squad Helps Dog Bite Victim." It was hysterical. My two favorite headlines from the book were "Drunk Gets Nine Months in Violin Case" and "Urologist Convicted by Jury of his Peers." Hard to find nowadays, but a must-read.

I am sure in the heat of haste to meet a printer’s deadline there is ample opportunity to “mis-speak . . . .

Funny when you read them... but then when you think about it, what idiot wrote that and who proof read it?

Our local small town newspaper went from publishing six editions a week to two editions. Maybe one of the reasons was to reduce the chance of coming up with an embarrassing headline similar to these. That and financial.

Back in the day, headline writing was an art. While some call these headlines idiotic, they were meant not only to attract attention to the article but to entertain. I had to laugh about the Colon headline. We really did get a whiff. He pitched for us (the Rangers) this year. He became the winningest Latin American pitcher this year, passing Valenzuela.

It happens here, as well. Brings to mind "Idiocracy" movie.
Fun and sad at the same time.

Leave it to some jackass to turn an amusing exchange into something overtly political.

Somewhat true , but Democrats are emotional jackasses now .

Yes, very funny, and I'm sure a lot of that wording was done on purpose to be funny.

Have you noticed thst a lot of headline writers can't resist the urge to be cute and clever?
