One point of view. I had the Sigma sport and sold it. My copy was not that sharp at the 600MM range.

Welcome to the forum.

I am a Nikon guy and replaced my Sigma with a Nikon 200-500. Great lens. Do not know your mount.

Both lenses are almost equal optically, and superb lenses for their price. I personally prefer the Sigma Sport model as it is the only super telephoto zoom lens above 450mm that is weather sealed. As a wildlife photographer that is of critical importance to me. If that is not an issue for you the Tamron would probably be a better buy at $600 less right now. Its also about 2 1/2 pounds lighter than the Sigma.

Agreed. The Nikkor 200-500 outperforms the Sigma, in my experience/opinion.

I've owned and used my Nikon D500 along with the Tamron 150-600mm G2 since November of 2016, and have NEVER had a sharpness problem, and shoot mostly wide open at F6.3-7.1 (sometimes I go to F8 if I need more DOF). Also MUCH lighter than the Sigma Sport, but of similar optical quality. Love this camera/lens combo!!
If my memory serves me correctly, this Tamron is also pretty-well weather sealed. Since my purchase, I have NEVER had a need to look back on my decision to buy!!

Look at Mike Jacksons site (Best of the Tetons) he prefers the Tamron over the Nikon.

The biggest difference is the Tamron is 2 lbs. lighter in weight - so, how much weight do you want to carry ???

Hello. I was in the same boat looking for a super zoom. I went with a Nikon 200 to 500 f5.6 and have not been disappointed. Just a suggestion.

That is my thought as well. But whichever you choose, get the modification accessory. The Sigma is the USB Dock and the Tamron is the TAP-in Console. Among other things they allow you to set custom focus range limits that can significantly reduce focus hunting is certain situations meaning reduced time to lock focus. It is also how they deliver firmware updates.

The Nikon 200-500 is better than both put together.

Yes, the Nikon is quite a bit superior.

Compare for yourself:

Image quality (similar in most respects, but appears to me that the Sigma Sport lens has less chromatic aberration at most focal lengths):
https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/ISO-12233-Sample-Crops.aspx?Lens=1079&Camera=453&Sample=0&FLI=2&API=0&LensComp=978&CameraComp=453&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=4&APIComp=0

Specification (the Sigma Sport is bigger and heavier, uses a larger 105mm filter for example... but it's designed to hold up to pro use):
https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Lens-Specifications.aspx?Lens=1079&LensComp=978

Flare (the Tamron seems to handle a little bit better at the longer focal lengths... but both lenses have deep lens hoods so won't be a problem most of the time):
https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Lens-Flare.aspx?Lens=1079&Camera=979&FLIComp=5&APIComp=1&LensComp=978&CameraComp=453&FLI=3&API=1

Distortion (neither lens shows very much... at shorter focal lengths, the Sigma might have a little less):
https://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Lens-Distortion.aspx?Lens=1079&Camera=979&FLI=4&LensComp=978&CameraComp=453&FLIComp=6

Something cool that Tamron has done on this and some other lenses recently is include a built-in Arca-Swiss dovetail on the tripod mounting ring foot. I wish all manufacturers would do that! With the Sigma and others you have to buy a separate A-S lens plate to attach to the foot. That gives you option of using a longer plate, if you with, but of course it adds some cost (up to around $50).

The Tamron maintains f/5 and especially f/5.6 deeper into the focal length range. The Sigma drops from f/5.6 to f/6.3 aperture around 320mm, while the Tamron doesn't drop to f/6.3 until about 420mm.

Sigma also offers a less expensive "Contemporary" version 150-600mm. You can compare it at that website too, if you wish.

In-depth, hands-on reviews are available at the-digital-picture.com website, too.

Not exactly correct.
The Sigma Sport drops to F5.6 at 250mm, the Tamron G2 drops to F5.6 at 240mm.
The Sigma Sport drops to F6.3 at 420mm, the Tamron G2 drops to F6.3 at 440mm.
Both sets of numbers just verified personally with the lenses in question in Nikon mount, Canon mounts COULD possible differ slightly.
Hardly enough difference between the two to be concerned with and far from the incorrect numbers you presented above.
