Renaming images

Is there a way to batch rename images leaving the last 3 digits unchanged? I have a Nikon D3200 and use Corel Paintshop Pro for editing, resizing, cropping etc. I would like to rename all images in a folder in camera or once uploaded to computer by changing the DSC_ and leaving the last digits. I have read where some people do a batch upload and need more information on this.

If you have them uploaded onto your PC you could use a file renamer. There are various applications that are freeware to paid versions. As to in camera renaming I'd suggest consulting the manual to see what type of latitude is available to you.

Did you try the help for Corel? Or, a simple google of: Corel Paintshop Pro rename

The 10-step process is defined at:

Thanks to Hayden and CHG Canon. I was in the process of downloading a program for renaming per Hayden's suggestion. When I got CHG Canon's answer. I went to Corel PSP and within minutes had renamed about 10 folders. Awesome. Thanks guys. This is why I love UHH.

Check your manual for the camera about naming the files in camera. I changed mine because I have a D7000 and a D500. I changed the in-camera naming in each body so the file names start with either D7000 or D500 (depending in the body) followed by digits. Seems to work well. I just followed the instructions in the camera’s manual. Good luck. jak

Google has a lot of information. All you have to do is punch in the question. Just like the guys did who solved your problem. Well, perhaps they didn't have to do that.

Irfanview.

When you're experimenting with batch changes, have a folder with all the original files, but work with a copy of those files in another folder. If you get the names thoroughly messed up, you can start fresh with the original files.

When I want to rename I usually use Fastone Resizer, I have renamed in PSP also but not that often, I think they both give you the option of specifying the first number in a sequence, that should do it if I interpret your question correctly, Bob.

I would recommend BETTER FILE RENAME http://www.publicspace.net/windows/BetterFileRename/index.html

It's free, and intuitive to use. I'd say install Bulk Rename Utility and Better File Rename, and keep the one you like best. I tried them both, and found BFR to be far superior.

Adobe Bridge may be sufficient for bulk renaming photos, but Better File Rename works on any and all file types. And it's free.
