Well, my namesake "Michael" is forming up and heading north...…. Hot Gulf waters, heavy moisture flow, and steering currents of unknown impact (models may shift some as it moves into the open gulf waters) - be prepared all, and you folks up the coast watch out for heavy rains. Hoping it will just sideswipe me, but it could be dangerous by the time it reaches Florida Panhandle, so don't be scared, be prepared!!

Here is the GOVT. hurricane info site. Looks like the East coast is going to get more rain.

Another great storm site is SpaghettiModels.com or Mike's Hurricane Page (no relation) a site run by a storm nut (and good guy) named Mike who lives in Tampa. For anyone involved with storm issues it is a fabulous resource, with many, many links.

I don't mind some wind and rain (we've been in a drought situation for weeks now), as long as there are no direct hits, those just plain suck!! I'm a veteran of many hurricanes, so I know what I have to do. You just can't trust the dang things!
take care.

I agree, Mike's site has everything on it for a WX enthusiast. I didn't realize he's here in Tampa!

Funny coincidence, but I received the first notice of Tropical Storm Leslie on Sept 23, the birthday of my late wife, Leslie. That ran its course, and then Hurricane Michael (named after my son) appeared.

The "new normal" thanks to climate change. Nay sayers scoffed when climate scientists predicted more frequent and more severe hurricanes from only a one or two degree warming of the ocean but people don't realize how much stored energy that provides for hurricanes. We'll probably see just a few heavy showers by the time it gets up here to New England but we are routinely seeing "extreme weather events" ranging from mini-droughts to ice storms.

Hurricanes are NOT nice. I speak from experience - Betsy, Camille, Katrina and many other close calls.
