any advice????
I did it last year very first time doing portraits and it went ok but I would like some advice from folks as I am not a professional!
There will be different backgrounds and props for the photographers to use.
This event is called "Our Community in the Park!" Put on by several of the local churches. Free food, clothes, hair cuts, dental work, eye exams, free medical evaluations from a medical van. Free portraits for family's, kids, babies, adults and animals.
any last minute advice or pointers will be helpful.
I will be shooting with my Nikon D5000 and 18 -55 mm lens. I know how to shoot in manual been doing it since May but not sure I should ... but use the camera "P" mode just to be safe..... ????
I wouldn't use P mode. I'd set the camera on M mode and pre-set the exposure for the conditions.
Example: use the sunny 16 rule as a starting point and then fine tune. Set up where you will get diffused light (under open shade)so that there are no harsh shadows to deal with and you can be standing in basically the same spot each time (but with slight variation.)
That way you won't even have to change settings between subjects.
Have everyone stand in the same spot in relation to the background..in other words...nothing changes from person to person...it's all repeatable and understandable.
Use a 50mm or longer lens...don't use a short lens and whatever lens you choose...keep using it...repeatablity is what we are after.
SO all you have to do is get a good exposure and as long as it doesn't "cloud up" or something major changes...you are good to go.
No...you won't have the most amazing shots in the world but since this is new to you...I'd go the safe, terror free route.
This is the idea that I'm trying to get across: though the subject changes....his setup is repeatable and understandable.
