I have just ordered the FreeWave wireless remote from B&H for my Nikon D500. I use BBF for all of my shots but know it will not work with a remote shutter release. Is there a short cut I can use to disable the BBF when using the remote? I plan on using my tripod in the next two weeks to shoot waterfalls, etc. in the NC mountains. I know i can go in the menus and reset my autofus values but maybe a quick shortcut.

Thanks

One quick option would be to focus manually. With the many Nikkor lenses that have a M/A focus option, you don't have to do anything but manually focus and shoot using the wireless remote. You can also turn off Autofocus with the Focus Mode switch at the bottom left on the front of the D500. If you are using a wireless remote, I assume the camera is mounted on a tripod or setting on a firm surface or beanbag, so manual focus should work unless you are shooting moving subjects. Just a thought...and very easy.

I plan on using my tripod so would be turning off VR on my lens but did want to use auto focus. I guess I have to go into the menus and reverse the procedure that I used for BBF.
Thanks for the response

Is it possible to set one Photo Shooting Menu Bank so that BBF is disabled in that bank? That would make it quick to switch it off when using the remote. I know I use it to turn off floating my ISO when I want that function disabled for night photography.

I have my D500 set up that way. It makes it easy to switch quickly!

Seems to me, shooting waterfalls on a tripod would be easy to manual focus?

I use BBF on my D7200 and use my wireless remote at the same time. I often use mirror up as well. So I focus and compose my shot, press the remote once to raise the mirror and a second time to take the shot. Other times I keep the BBF pressed for continuous focus and the remote to take the shot. My remote is a Pixel TW 238.

My D7000 has two programmable modes. If yours does, assign one of them without BBF for flash use.

Great idea for the use of a second bank. I will have to look up how to use it.
Thanks

Doesn’t the d500 have nikons snapbridge? And doesn’t that allow you to focus and shoot using a smart phone as a remote?

Snapbridge is garbage and Nikon should be ashamed. It’s worked Maybe once after Messing with it for too much time. Two of my friends with the D500 have the same issues. It’s sad because my old D5300 works like a charm providing the ability to shoot remote. I love my D500 but hate that it doesn’t have true WIFI especially as it’s a high end camera.

Interesting. SnapBridge remote control works really well with my D7500. I have it set up for BBF, but with SnapBridge, I can focus it remotely and take pictures.

You are aware that they upgraded SnapBridge.
