What I would say is to get rid of the powerlines and power pole then I think both photos would be a successful IMHO.

Have you tried using the IN CAMERA 3 exposure HDR using JPEGS ?? - simplifies a LOT ....

Sorry, way too overcooked for me. I try to use HDR to make my shots more lifelike than way out.
