Delaminating LCD screen on D850

My LCD screen is starting to delaminate in several locations. It looks like small air pockets on the screen, and cleaning/wiping with a professional/approved cloth does not help. Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, was their a remedy other than sending the camera to Nikon. Thanks for the replies.

I don't want to sound condescending, please take no offense. Did you remove the protective clear film over the LCD screen already? That's just the first thing that comes to mind. Good luck. I actually hope that's all it is...for your sake.

jak86094: Thanks for the response. I wasn't aware that a protective film covered the LCD screen. I have three other cameras and several cell phones none of which have protective covers that I can detect. I could not find any information in the 369 page user manual concerning that issue, or anything on-line, or in the initial user manual. I am one who does not assume something exists unless I can detect it, or am referenced to it. Your suggestion may be accurate and valid...and I hope you are right. I did not take your comments as condescending at all...and I am most grateful for your response. Do you have a recommendation for a protective cover for my 850...there seem to be many on the market (B&H/Amazon). Thanks again. John

My D850 came with the same peel off sheet. It's disposable and not expected to be replaced. Today's screens are plenty tough. I think the D2x was the last one I had that came with a real protective cover.

I called Nikon repair and spoke to Dave who was very helpful. He said my (November 2017) 850 was shipped with a protective cover over the LCD screen and the cover delamination issue was the protective screen and not the LCD itself. He said it would be virtually impossible to have this kind of issue with the LCD itself, but could be an issue with the protective cover. He suggested I take the camera to a camera shop and have the screen cover professionally removed and another protective cover applied to the screen. He reiterated that a protective cover was advisable and needs to be on the LCD to protect the integrity of the screen. Thanks to the responders for their input and advise.

That's interesting. I got a fingernail under the corner of mine and peeled it off. Please let us know how you make out at the camera store. Good luck!

I believe the OP is serious, and Nikon just might be misleading him.

I sent the OP a link to an unboxing video that shows the guy ripping it off an tossing it aside.

Unless there is another layer underneath that one.

I suspect that Nikon’s “advice” is like advising to keep a clear filter over the lens to protect it. The LCD can get scratched and that could reduced clarity. I kept the membrane on my D7000 for about 5 years, but I knew that’s what it was. When I started seeing air bubbles, etc, I took it off. So in a few instances it might be useful. But at least the OP knows it’s not a problem with the display now.

I’m sure glad there are people like you that make such stupid comments.

That's interesting. I know that all LCD products are shipped with an obvious sheet of clear plastic on the screen, but that's very obvious, and everyone knows it should be removed. Apparently, there is also a permanent protective screen applied. It must be something like the protective screen on the sensor.

If it was permanent I doubt Nikon would tell him to take it to a camera store. More than likely they would have him sending it to Nikon, particularly since it appears to be still under warranty.

Be interesting to see the outcome.
