Which 4K TV should I buy, if any?

The last TV I bought was about 13 years ago. I bought a big DLP HD model and have changed the light bulb myself a couple of times. Now the images from my camera are bigger. I use a Sony A99M2. I think it may be time to upgrade to a better TV.

Today I loaded a big favorite image of mine on a thumb drive and walked into four different stores with walls full of TV monitors on display. I wanted someone to display the image on the TV screen so I could see if how it looked. All the stores refused to help me. They all explained that their TVs are in the display mode and they can not change anything. I walk out of each store when I was told that. I'm willing to spend money but I want to know what it's going to do for me before I buy.

The stores all have special source programing running into them that looks spectacular. I have no idea what normal TV, or my images would look like. I'm not going to buy anything until a salesman cooperates with me.

If they force to buy a TV without testing it, I'll buy on-line and save money. I'd like to learn of which 4K TV you bought and what your experience was.

I normally sit about 12 feet from the screen and in the evening the setting sun shins on the screen. My DLP gets washed out by the light at sun set. I'm willing to pay for a big screen TV but I'm not sure what size screen to buy.

Anything 42 or less will get minimal to zero effect from 4K, and very little 4K source material is yet available,

Hi Dave,

I have two 4K tv’s, a 42 inch lg and a 65 inch Sony xbr750. The Sony has a great picture for everything, pictures videos, YouTube 4K stuff and the four, yes only four, 4K stations that our cable provider gives us on top of the HD channels etc. I really notice how much better the picture is over the 52 inch high def tv it replaced.

The 42 lg has a great picture but the 4 k stuff really doesn’t make much of a difference unless you are 15 inches or closer to the screen.

At 12 feet away you will love the 65 inch size, I would even go to a 70 or 75 inch size if you hey fit your room. I am a Sony fan but brand will be more what you like.

I have a big enough room but maybe it's still time to wait? This is the room in which it will go. I normally sit next to cushion with the flag, looking at at the TV.
On the other hand, I'm old! Too old for the waiting game. If I want something to enjoy it's best to buy it soon. I'll check out the 65 inch Sony. I'll also goto the Apple Store. I think there is an Apple TV.

In this photo you can also see the problem I have with the setting sun, washing out the image on my old dim rear projection DLP.

APPLE TV is a box similar to a ROKU.

I have a 60” Sony Bravia I think a bought in 2008. It is a full smart tv and I have a Apple TV that shows my pics & videos from my iPad beautifully. It has front USB inputs which I have used for pics. The results are great. I have 4 other flat screens bought in recent years and none compare to the Sony in picture quality. I have to replace a 50” off brand my wife uses to watch that failed and I will replace it with a Sony. 4K is a crap - no Satelite or cable service provides that thru put. If you want the best picture quality “over the air” is best. Streaming is ok on the Sony when I use it. Again, all depends on the source. My Sony is a 2008 - the new models with all the improvements should be stunning. Samsung also makes some nice stuff. I have 2 small screens (19”) that are very good.

I bought a 60 inch 4k from Costco, a Vizio. The picture on regular broadcasts wonderful, but it shines when viewing the few 4k shows available, from Amazon primarily. The effect is startling!

Any problems I have had, incould fix with the help of the Costco concierge.

As to showing photos, I really haven't tried.

Maybe I was a little severe about 4K. Seems some others are having great experiences. My problem is I just do not have time to explore all the options. And , I’m Amazon prime. I will have to explore streaming!

This is something that I'll be looking at the same time I buy my next TV. I'm also looking into getting an servo controlled antenna mounted on my roof. I live on a hill top with good line of sight to distant horizons. My access to Internet/Cable is limited to my wireless connection to ATT. I also have Dish Network but that's expensive and I'm looking into making some changes. Sometimes the best access I have have is the "Personal Hotspot" my iPhone provides. I live out in the boonies.

TV's are bigger, better, and cheaper than ever--and there are more reliable brands than ever before. Read some reviews, pick one, and enjoy it.

I asked about what is available in terms of 4K programming several years ago when I was TV shopping. All the videos shown in the stores are specially made in 4K - but at least as of two years ago, there is very little material available on cable or elsewhere that is in 4K resolution. So why buy a 4K TV?

I have a Samsung that I use a thumb drive on all the time. Once the thumb drive is plugged in the TV
and recognized it will appear on the source just select and it will display your picture and or movie.
When you are finished remove the drive the thumb drive the TV will then show the source that are
available select one and you are good to go.

My suggestions are at least 60 inch, 4K, smart, with connections for everything that you will connect to it.
The USB plug in should be the most current such as usb3. If you have limited the tv's down to a couple
of models download there manuals and check them out first.

Hope this helps.
