Wow! been there done that only it was film.
In the darkroom when was told of an Airplane crashed .
Grabbed my camera went to the crash. Was shooting and noticed that the film running low asked another photographer if I could by a roll, said no just gave me a roll instead.
When it came time to change film ....that was when I discovered NO FILM IN THE CAMERA! After that there were signs at each door "Is your camera loaded?"

I know the rest his fellow shooters called him out, the story or image had been shown on Sports Shooter's web site. These guys are of course shooting from a camera pit and I am sure sure have to move from place to place to get their assigned shots. Their caption said "Nikons work great if you take the lens cap off"
Until I changed the settings I have forgotten to put a card in the camera.
Having worked the Olympics not as photographer, I can assure it's a hectic pace, in Atlanta, back in the day I was assigned to a unit to provide security for the individual athletes and at start we covered as many as 75 volley ball matches in a day. Game time temps on the volleyball courts was a tepid 105F, that was at 8 AM. Bill Walton the former NBA player was doing commentary and some play by play and moaned and whined and complained constantly.
So I can imagine the difficulty of jostling you camera gear from one event to the next and battling to be the first with getting images edited and uploaded.

Never happened to me, no, never. Of course I have lost every lens cap, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.

I actually happened to be watching and saw this photog trying to find out the problem. I actually yelled at the TV, "your lens cap is on you nut".
