Intel is like the default/number 1 brand and a sure bet. If you go with AMD, most probable scenario is that you will save money and be equally happy.
Personally I have stayed with Intel for the last....well, many years. For most users an i5 is enough. I would put my investment in SSD and RAM instead, where the bottleneck is for most use cases on today's computers.

At my level of usage I don't think I would notice the difference. If the same is true for you then AMD might be better if saving money is a priority.

I stuck with Intel processors due to the big-endian/little-endian difference at the time. Started with Intel and stayed with Intel.

Intel is my choice. I bought a laptop with AMD and it was worse than bad, it was terrible. Some years later I was told that my AMD processor was the cheapest one they made and the better ones were much better. They were certainly correct in that advise. The
better one quit only half as often as the cheap one. I run Intel on my laptop and on my desktop with good results on both.

My current laptop has AMD, a top of the line. It is fast and no processing issues other than the previously mentioned tweaks necessary with Linux. But it runs hot. My son has nearly the same laptop (2 years newer) with intel and it runs super cool.

That has been my experience also.

I had two laptops one intel corei5 and Amd whatever. The amd crashes all the time and runs slow as molasses. Once I got abducted by aliens for 4 hours and they operated on me through my nostrils. When I got back to my AMD laptop it still had not booted up. I jest but that’s the way I feel. I hired an IT guy to clean it up and speed it up for me it worked better for awhile but my intel used to boot up PS in literally 5 seconds. I kid you not. I timed it. When I do Lightroom with the AMD machine the screen goes blank for 60 seconds while it crunches an HDR.

The intel machine got taken by the feds in a raid because my roommate was looking at kiddie porn. They raided the house at 2am and busted the doors down and threw bombs in the house and shoved assault rifles in our faces and took everyone’s computers and never gave them back. That’s not a joke. It really happened. Bottom line AMD sucks.

Intel or AMD? I have had both and can't really think of any complaints. The secret to either processor is to make sure You have the best supporting hardware for which ever one You chose.

My understanding is there is some collusion between Intel and Microsoft so only Intel and MS products are truly 100% compatible. I've never owned other than an Intel based PC. Currently I use an i7 4-core (hyperthreading) Dell XPS with 32GB RAM and Windows 10 Home. Yet my wife's Dell Inspiron i5 4-core 8GB RAM with Windows 10 Professional runs MS-Office faster than my PC. Weird. I use Ps CS6 on my PC and have PSE9 on my wife's PC.

I've used Ps CS 5 on MACs at school. AMD could not be too horrible as they have been around a long time too. But I've never purchased a minimal system.

For several years I always maintained an AMD processor computer and a comparable computer with an Intel Processor. Each of the two machines contained as much of the processor companies' peripherals. My goal was to create two computers with apples to apples comparison. I tracked down time, difficulty of using the deep OS tools to repair glitches, ease of locating and installing as many parallel systems as possible. I also tracked down time and difficulty of bringing the system back on line, including available of parts etc. Each machine had the maximum RAM operating at the fastest speed available. Both machines ran the same OS. After 4 years we compaired functionality, performance. Both machines ran primarily ADOBE Master Suite Software.

Jn the end, standard programs ran standard functions very well, but when more intensive software like rendering large movie files the Intel processor consistently performed a notch above AMD. AMD had more crashes and RAM crashes. Customer service was superior at intel. Hence I only purchase Intel hardware. Rather than create pitched arguements here, I recommend you do your own comparative study.

Would that it was that simple as AMD VS Intel. Example: I'm using an i7 Intel laptop with 12 GB RAM. The i7 is a 6500U, dual core 2.5 GHz processor. You can get 4 core i5 8265U processor with a turbo frequency of 3.9 GHz. Each of these processors can handle 2 threads of code so 4 core or 8 core equivalent processing power. Without details of the processor there is no way to compare them. The same applies to AMD.

If the computer is for photo editing, I would go with the intel. Photo editing is all about calculations and intel is much better with calculations. Skimping on processor or RAM will reduce your editing experience.

Great place to compare processors, not all intel processors of the same class (I5, I7) perform equally.
