Highway 120 near Yosemite (B&W)

Haven't used my camera in a while. Decided to take a random drive up highway 120 yesterday. It was pretty hazy out, but I think this shot came out decent in black and white since it was one of the only ones with something going on in the sky

Mountain landscapes are very powerful in greyscale.

Got Lightroom? A graduated filter diagonal from the bottom right to the tree line and open up shadows would bring out hidden detail in the trees.

Yes, I actually tried out the adjustment brush with shadows in those trees on this and like it with the darker trees better. Adds contrast

There is nothing wrong with contrast, but large blocks of black will draw the viewers eye first and overshadow the rest of your image, and generate a negative impression. To be effective a grayscale image has to balance lights and darks so that the viewer's eye will see all portions of the image. I am not talking about something like the Zone System, just balanced processing.

Wonderful shot. Monochrome can be so much more impacting under the right conditions. You have chosen right on this one.
