Very good set, Chief. The first and third birds are different, the third almost looks like big horn sheep (?).

Hi NMGal. The first bird is a Rhinoceros Auk, the third one in a Tufted Puffin. Both really hard to get in the wild. But I had an ace in the hole. My brother has a boat there. He dropped me off on one of the sea stacks and I set up a blind while he went fishing for a few hours.

ok Keith, you got a bald eagle, a puffin, and a loon. But that first one is a new one on me!
Very interesting bird. Do you know what it is?

All great shots, thanks for posting.

Thanks, Fred. I was hoping I could stump you guys. First one is a Rhinoceros Auk. Did you notice the band on his leg? I got him on a sea stack in Resurrection Bay out of Seward

guess that's why I don't ever remember seeing one in the yard...(now all I have to figger out is what the hell is a "sea stack"?)

A sea-stack is a piece of the shoreline that has become separated from the mainland by erosion. Sea birds like them because predators can't/won't cross the water to get out to them. That's my story...and I'm sticking with it. The Seven Sisters along the Great Southern Road in south Australia is a great example.

It’s a good day when I learn something.
