Driving in BC

Rules For Driving In BC......

1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real BC driver never uses them.

2. Under no circumstance should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, or the space will be filled in by somebody else, putting you in an even more dangerous situation.

3. The faster you drive through a red light, the smaller the chance you have of getting hit.

4. Never, ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will result in you being rear-ended.

5. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork, especially someone from Surrey. With no-fault insurance the other guy doesn't have anything to lose.

6. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs.

7. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to prepare people entering the highway.

8. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as a suggestion and are apparently not enforceable in BC during rush hour.

9. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that a BC driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.

10. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire. This is seen as a sign of respect for the victim.

11. Learn to swerve abruptly. BC is the home of high-speed slalom driving like Highway 16, thanks to the Highways Department, which puts pot-holes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them alert.

12. It is traditional in BC to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light turns green.
13. Remember that the goal of every BC driver is to get there first by whatever means necessary.

14. In BC, 'flipping someone the bird' is considered a polite salute. This gesture should always be returned.

Pretty close to the truth!

Halirious. What a coincidence that Los Angeles drivers are just as thoughtful as those in BC.

Yes, very true stuff!
And don't forget, it is always permissable to pass over a double yellow line, uphill, going into a blind curve. If someone is coming toward you, they'll simply move over to let you safely in.

Gotta love those BC drivers.

I had to laugh one time while on a motorcycle ride down the Alaska Hwy. My riding partner and I noticed that, while the speed limit was posted at 100 kph in most places, 90 in others, a lot of cars with Canadian license plates passed us like we were standing still. We asked the owner of the lodge we stayed at one night near Watson Lake, why, and he informed us that when folks who live along the highway had business, it mostly conducted in Whitehorse, which was, from that point, just over 300 miles away, and people needed to get there and back, so they tend to make haste. I asked about the RCMP, and he told me that pretty much they understand that thinking and don't bother drivers unless they go much over 140 (87 mph).!!

Did not have my morning coffee and while reading this I thought you were talking about
Florida drivers. Down here I think turn signals are an option on a car that no one wants
to spend money on.

Great joke except it probably is not a laughing matter...……...LOL

Great fun! In Canada, no one is afraid that another driver who is ticked off at your bad driving habits will get out of his car at the next light and shoot you!!!

Actually, we've been through BC quite a few times and never had a problem. it's the log truck drivers that are really crazy! However, that whole list certainly applies to driving and drivers in Alaska. Here, red lights, stop signs and speedlimits are considered to be mere suggestions. A safe distance behind another vehicle means you just haven't rear ended it. And solid yellow lines are often considered road surface decoration. We refer to driving on the Glenn Hwy between Anchorage and Palmer and Wasilla during the morning and evening rush hour, as combat driving. I know there are just two lanes going each direction north of Eagle River, but I'll swear that at times a third lane is created! Loads of fun. But don't mark Alaska off your list to visit just because you take your life into your own hands when driving. 😁😁😁

In Tehran you only used your turn signals after making the turn.
It was a sign that you had successfully made it
Another technique was at a junction with traffic lights, All drivers just had to be closest to the front of the line. So even if you were making a left hand turn you would do it even from the inside lane if that meant you were closer to the front. You can imagine the chaos.
This was back in the early 70's
Also back then, the Traffic cops had a huge books with a list of all outstanding traffic tickets. They would stand at traffic lights and frantically scan the books to compare with license plates. As just about everyone had outstanding tickets, you can imagine the chaos as everyone accelerated away from the lights even before they had changed to green get away from the lights before the cop could tie the two together

I thought these were rules for driving in 10,000 BC! This is definitely how Fred and Barney drove...

Pretty much sounds like the rules for drivers where I live.
One important rule was omitted: wait until last second to decide which way to go (left, right, straight ahead?) when coming to an intersection!
Some don't make that decision until they are actually in the intersection!

After reading the rules, it is apparent that most people in BC, originally came from NJ.
