Frame grabs from 4k video are quite common now since the end result nets a picture that is 12 megapixels. This is quiet adequate for most photos.

And you do not see this as plagiarism of another person's art? Why did you do this? I am pro-photographer and yes I deplore the copy use of other people's work.

I am sorry that you see it that way. Like music, if you do not "captilize" on the photo--sell or receive goods, etc. it is not plagiarism. Many people have spent thousand of dollars for their TV set (and it is used in a private way) so we have the right to take pictures of anything on the tube --as long as we keep it private. I take photos from my television from time to time and I don't see any plagiarism of another person's art - in fact it helps the artist's reputation in a personal private way. Now I wouldn't be seen trying to sell portraits that I took from television without that person's permission. And I don't feel that one of our members showing (sharing) his "art" to us as wrong at all!

I think the OP shot the 4K video on his camera and then captured a frame as a still in post processing. Unless I missed it, plagiarism is not involved. I don't think the OP is taking pictures of other's videos on his TV.

FWIW, generally 4K video from Sony and Panasonic is shot at 30 full frames per second. ("4K 30p"). Each frame can be singled out as a 8MP JPEG with programs like Lightroom, all the video editors and some viewers like VLC.

That's right. The OP only used his camera as 30fps, 8MP camera with very long burst.

You may all applaud the Op but I still see it as a copy of someone else's work. It is borderline as far as law is concerned but why applaud a copy? Photographing the TV set is not real photography it is copy work and any copy shop could do it.. Chasing an animal 4 hours around a lake to get a great shot and then make the shot yours is photography. Anything else is imitation photography.
