Its 87 miles, Syracuse to Rochester... shouldn't take more than an hour and a half under normal driving conditions. I used to make the drive door to door in 5 1/2 hours in good conditions, normal traffic. Google map it if you don't believe me... its 309 miles from where I live and Google Map directions says 5 hours to do the drive.

Vince ... they must've raised the speed limit, then ... back in 1972-73 - it was about 60mph along that stretch of the NY Thruway.

Used to take about 6-7 hours to get to RIT from here ... a helluva long haul ... finally, packed it in - much too long a drive for me.

Chris, if my memory serves me correct, the speed limit in '68, '69, '70 was 65mph. And I will admit, I did push it to around 70 back then.

Ah, well ... that explains it, then ... that's a major truck route ... that one and I-80 in PA and Ohio ... not good to be going at those speeds around those 18-wheelers ... they'll crush the life outta you ... both, mentally ... and physically - should it come to that!

So did I ... that's how I know you'd be hard pressed to make it from Syracuse to Rochester in less than two hours ....

There seem to be some differences of opinion on the distance between the two cities. I stand by my original statement of "an hour or so" and suggest consulting Google or a map site. Here's one result:

"Estimated Travel Time Between Syracuse and Rochester
Average Speed Travel Time
30 mph (48 km/h) 02 hours 56 minutes
40 mph (64 km/h) 02 hours 12 minutes
50 mph (80 km/h) 01 hours 45 minutes
60 mph (97 km/h) 01 hours 27 minutes
70 mph (112 km/h) 01 hours 15 minutes
75 mph (120 km/h) 01 hours 10 minutes"

[quote=Chris T]Check that, Marty ... Rochester is a whole lot more than an hour or two from Syracuse ... double that, and you'll be closer ....

From here - Rochester is an all day-long drive ... Buffalo ... about three hours more ...

Siri tells me that Rochester is 84 miles from Syracuse.

Last time I did that trip, I was pulling a U-Haul, so I kept the speed down, quite a bit. And, that leg - seemed to take forever ....

Siri, huh? ... Will have to Google that ....
