I noticed this web from a distance the other morning and could not get above or below the web for a decent shot. I tried this on edge shot and am satisfied with the results. There was a soft breeze and it caused the support elements of the web to vibrate creating the patterns.

A nice capture, I have a popcorn spider by my porch, I'll take some shots of it if it comes back out of hiding (getting colder here)!!
Very cool. A bit of surreal feeling - I like it a lot.
Thanks everyone for the kind comments.
Very nice, and very creative shot from the edge like that.
I would have thought a 1/1000 shutter speed would have stopped that vibration cold! Very unusual image!

Stan I would have thought so as well. I had the camera set for hummingbirds which were hanging around our Mexican Sage when I saw this. Re-checked the meta data and it shows ISO 800 f 4.5 1/1000. The web must have been vibrating very fast but I was close as the lens would focus about a bit less than 1 meter at 200 mm.
Thanks for looking and the kind comments UTMike and sailorsmom
