I visited beautiful and historic Greenwood Cemetery this week. Although I lived in Brooklyn for the first 24 years of my life, I knew very little about this place. It was the scene of the Battle of Brooklyn in the Revolutionary War, and the place from which the largest military evacuation in history took place. More soldiers were evacuated from this land than from Dunkirk. Many famous peoplke are buried here, such as Houdini, Leonard Bernstein, Boss Tweed, etc. If you are ever in NYC, go over to Brooklyn and take a tour of this place.
The bear is fascinating do you suppose his demise was caused by a bear?

That is the head stone of William Holbrook Beard. He was a famous artist who specialized in animal paintings. One of his most famous was that of the bulls and bears fighting on Wall Street.
I lived on Brooklyn for the first 25 years of my life. It was a wonderful place to grow up. Never went to Greenwood Cemetery.

I have heard of it - very nice set.
I was told the deceased painted a famous picture having to do with bulls and bears on Wall Street, but I did not get his name.
The tour guide also said that the look on the bear's face had to do with infusing some "Brooklyn attitude".
Thanks for the post, never would have guessed that such a beautiful palce existed in Brooklyn!
This is really neat, rdemarco52! I'd sure like to visit there!
