The first British troops to land in Normandy during D-Day were the men of D Company, 2nd Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (part of the 6th British Airborne Division) who landed at Ranville-Benouville in the early hours of June 6th.1944 Troops led by Major John Howard landed by Horsa gliders captured the Caen Canal Bridge, later renamed Pegasus Bridge in honour of the cap badge of the 6th Airborne Division.
I was staying in the area recently so I had the opportunity to visit this famous place, here are a few sample photographs.

Nice ones John. Apparently, the Germans were planning to install anti glider spikes later that day in the field where the Gliders landed.
I recently read Ike, a biography of General Eisenhower. There is considerable discussion of the D-Day landing, the importance of Pegasus Bridge and its strategic importance in getting off the beaches. It's a great read, that book, rather lengthy but worth the time.
