I'm still working on portraiture and wanted to get your opinions on these 2. I know the 2nd one doesn't show the subject's face but to me it represents the playful imagination of a 7 year old. It's also a one image faux HDR. What do you think?

I like the twinkle in the eyes of number one and you got in close to frame her face tightly. The second one is very nice for exactly the opposite reason. You showed enough of the surroundings to get a mood of serenity. I am no expert but those are my thoughts. I like both.

Number 2 is ok, IMHO, but I love #1. It held my attention a long time, and made me smile. :) :)

#2 is wonderful. I might have cropped a bit off the bottom, but in case, a great image.

#1 suffers from having the flash on the camera. Still a nice image, but direct, harsh flash is not flattering. As a nice snapshot it is great. As a true portrait, it suffers a bit from harsh light.

Thanks Captain, I respect your opinion. I should have diffused or bounced. My speedlight broke and I'm saving for another.

Fix #1 in p/p like the Captain said and then find their place on the wall
